Comments from the Knuckle: “Digging through the backlog of my homebrew, I noticed that I didn’t have a bard on the blog. So, here’s a bard I wrote a while ago!”

College of Cantors

The cantors are a group of bards who lead the faithful through the praise and worship of the gods. Their music is directed towards the heavens, with their instruments usually relating in some way to the god that they worship. Cantors are well loved within their respective communities, and it is hard to find a talented cantor who will stay in one place for long, as the demand for their soothing hymns is widespread.

Heavenly Voice
When you choose this college at 3rd level, you gain the thaumaturgy cantrip. Thaumaturgy counts as a bard spell for you, and does not count against the number of cantrips you can learn.

Song of the Divines
Starting at 3rd level, by singing divine hymns, playing your instrument, or speaking through thaumaturgy, you can use one of the following abilities:

  • As an action, you can target a hostile creature that you can see within 60 feet of you, which must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, the creature takes 1d8 radiant damage and is deafened until the beginning of your next turn. The damage increases by 1d8 at 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8).
  • As an action, you may target a friendly creature that you can see within 60 feet of you and expend a single use of your Bardic Inspiration to bestow a ward upon them. The next time your warded ally is attacked by a hostile creature, the attacker takes radiant damage equal to your Bardic Inspiration die.

Healing Hymn
Starting at 6th level, when you cast a spell of 1st level or higher to restore hit points to a creature, such as cure wounds or healing word, you can expend a use of your Bardic Inspiration to bolster that healing. The creature regains additional hit points equal to your Bardic Inspiration die plus your Charisma modifier.

Angelic Voice
Starting at 14th level, you can use your Healing Hymn ability without expending uses of your Bardic Inspiration.
